EXPLORING ASOLA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary

 

Asola wildlife sanctuary is located at the far southern edge of the city of Delhi, at Asola near Tughlaqabad in the Delhi National Capital Territory of India.
  It is the northernmost extension of the Aravalli mountains that begin in the state of Gujarat (Runn of Kutch) Once this forested ridge area throughout the city of Delhi, but development has all but destroyed it. The reserve is found at the end of a rutted track that leads through a dusty unlicensed village.
Legal protected Status of southern ridge was uncertain till 1986 when community lands of the villages of Asola, Shapur and Maidangari (4,707 acres (1,905 ha)) were notified during 1986 and the lands of Bhatti 2,167 acres (877 ha)) were notified in 1991 as a sanctuary.


The  place where I live is appox. 2km away from northern boundary of sanctuary. Once it was Forest and trees all around, but as people started living here , settled here, from near states. People established colonies about 30 years before. And now the asia's largest unauthorized colony Sangam Vihar shares boundary with it, and the colony is most populated area. People from nearby area (Deoli) occupied/captured and sold the land.

One can go to visit the forest, beautiful scenes are there, many hills are there.
There are a couple of Lakes inside it, beautiful lakes but with nasty stories. Many people have lost their lives in the lakes(near Death Valley).
